About Me

Ambrose Lo (羅彥博, a.k.a. 安寶老師), PhD, FSA, CERA, is the (co)author of several study manuals for professional actuarial exams (ATPA, FAM, MAS-I, MAS-II, SRM, and PA).  Born and raised in Hong Kong, he received his BSc (Actuarial Science) in 2010 with first class honors from The University of Hong Kong (HKU).  Upon graduation, he pursued a PhD, also in actuarial science, at HKU, researching dependence structures and quantitative risk management under the supervision of Professor Ka Chun Cheung.  During his PhD studies (2010-2014), he earned the Fellowship of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and the Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) designations.  In August 2014, he joined the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, the University of Iowa (UI), as Assistant Professor of Actuarial Science and began his academic career.  His research interests centered on optimal (re)insurance, particularly in the context of distortion-risk-measure-based models.  In July 2019, he was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor.  He left the UI and returned to Hong Kong at the end of June 2023.
