HOLY GHOST APPEARED IN HUMAN FORM: In 1 Nephi 11, Nephi has a vision in which a heavenly being called "the Spirit" or "the Spirit of the Lord" appears to and speaks with him face to face. Apostle James E. Talmage (on pages 159 & 160 of his book The Articles of Faith) expressed his view that this was actually the appearance of the Holy Ghost. If this is the case, it would constitute the only appearance of the Holy Ghost to a man in all of scripture. It also seems to align with the titles and deeds of the Holy Spirit, for this "Spirit" (capital S) testifies of both the Father and of the Son (the other two members of the Godhead) to Nephi.
"As I sat pondering in mine heart I was caught away in the Spirit of the Lord... And the Spirit said unto me: Believest thou that thy father saw the tree of which he hath spoken? And I said: Yea, thou knowest that I believe all the words of my father. And when I had spoken these words, the Spirit cried with a loud voice, saying: Hosanna to the Lord, the most high God; for he is God over all the earth, yea, even above all. And blessed art thou, Nephi, because thou believest in the Son of the most high God... I spake unto him as a man speaketh; for I beheld that he was in the form of a man; yet nevertheless, I knew that it was the Spirit of the Lord; and he spake unto me as a man speaketh with another", 1 Nephi 11:1-11
NAME JEHOVAH USED: The Book of Mormon uses the name Jehovah for the Lord (in 421 AD). This usage is significant for a couple reasons. First, it is unique since the name Jehovah is not found in the New Testament (only the old). Secondly, there has been debate about whether the name "Jehovah" or "Yahweh" (or some other form) is a more accurate pronunciation of the original Hebrew tetragram YHWH) This Book of Mormon passage suggests, at the least, that the name "Jehovah" is acceptable for Christians to use. Thirdly, this Book of Mormon reference to Jehovah as "the Eternal Judge" confirms Jehovah is Jesus since Jesus is specifically indicated as the judge of mankind amongst the three Godhead members ("the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son", John 5:22).
Moroni 10:34 And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.
STONES USED BY GOD'S SERVANTS TO RECEIVE REVELATION:
Alma 37:23 And the Lord said: I will prepare unto my servant Gazelem, a stone, which shall shine forth in darkness unto light, that I may discover unto my people who serve me, that I may discover unto them the works of their brethren, yea, their secret works, their works of darkness, and their wickedness and abominations. And now, my son, these interpreters were prepared that the word of God might be fulfilled, which he spake, saying: I will bring forth out of darkness unto light all their secret works and their abominations; and except they repent I will destroy them from off the face of the earth; and I will bring to light all their secrets and abominations, unto every nation that shall hereafter possess the land. (ex. Compare to the Urim and Thummim stones used in the Old Testamenet and in modern times during the translation of the Book of Mormon)
"THEY ARE ONE GOD": A couple passages in the Book of Mormon refer to the Father, Son and Spirit together as "one God". This is interesting since there is no such passage in the Bible (only less specific passages like, "I and my Father are one"). Do not be confused, such language is not teaching the Trinitarian doctrine that the Father, Son and Spirit are literally one being. On the contrary, this "are one" language is used throughout the Bible, and it is ALWAYS used to describe metaphorical/non-literal unity between separate beings. For example, "Them that believed were of one heart and of one soul " (Acts 4:32), "Stand fast with one spirit, with one mind" (Philip. 1:27),"they shall be one flesh" (Gen. 2:24), "For we being many are... one body" (1 Cor. 10:17) etc. In each case, Christians literally have spirits, minds, flesh, bodies etc., but are metaphorical one. Applying scriptural language, we would conclude that the Father, Son and Spirit are literally separate Gods (separate beings of great power and authority etc.), yet they are perfectly one in purpose, in deed, in word, power, authority etc.
2 Nephi 31:21 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.
Mosiah 15:1-4 And now Abinadi said unto them: I would that ye should understand that God himself shall come down among the children of men, and shall redeem his people. 2 And because he dwelleth in flesh he shall be called the Son of God, and having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son— 3 The Father, because he was conceived by the power of God; and the Son, because of the flesh; thus becoming the Father and Son— 4 And they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth. 5 And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, suffereth temptation, and yieldeth not to the temptation, but suffereth himself to be mocked, and scourged, and cast out, and disowned by his people.
WORDS OF GOD THE FATHER:
2 Nephi 31:10-15 My beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father? And the Father said: Repent ye, repent ye, and be baptized in the name of my Beloved Son. ... And I heard a voice from the Father, saying: Yea, the words of my Beloved are true and faithful. He that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
3 Nephi 11:6-7 And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them: 7 Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him. 8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven
3 Nephi 24:1 Thus said the Father unto Malachi—Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in; behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts.
