Oyata Shin Shu Ho literally translated means "Oyata's Truthful Hands Method." Interpreted, the words Shin Shu Ho mean "to strive to attain true moral goodness and to express it through one's every action."
Oyata Shin Shu Ho was born out of Taika Oyata's lifelong study of life protection arts. His studies led him to the conclusion that these arts evolved from the heart of the Okinawan people, who believe in world peace and respect for human life. At this point, Taika decided to spend the rest of his life spreading the true nature of Ryukyu Hands.
In 1993, Taika introduced Oyata Shin Shu Sho with the hope that modern practitioners will inherit the true protection spirit that ancient Okinawan warriors possessed. One's hands can be used for self-defense against dangerous attackers. Outside of self-defense situations, one's hands should used for the betterment of people, one's community, and society as a whole.
Taika analyzed kanji (the Chineses characters used in Japanese writing) to represent the true nature of Okinawan protection arts. Shin can be represented by many different kanji, all pronounced the same. Shin Shu can be:
God's Hand
The Hand of Truth
The Hand of Trust
The Hand of the Heart
The Parent's Hand
All these elements, then, should be included when studying this art.
