There are currently 177 USARS regiments, with only 47 consisting of units at multiple locations. Some of the regimental battalions are assigned to brigade combat teams in multiple divisions. Only 27 of these regiments meet the USARS "Conus/Oconus goal." Additionally, the term "Regiment" was not officially appended to a USARS regiment's official name/ designation (and was not used unders CARS) until 2005.
The Infantry rifle company as part of the Infantry battalion within the Infantry brigade combat team (IBCT) is organized to conduct decisive action, the continuous, simultaneous combinations of offensive, defensive, and stability or defense support of civil authorities tasks. The primary mission of the rifle company is to close with the enemy employing fire and movement in order to; destroy, capture, or to repel his assault through fire, close combat, and counterattack. The rifle company must be aggressive, physically fit, disciplined, and well trained. The rifle company can deploy rapidly and execute missions to support entry operations throughout the range of military operations. The rifle company can conduct effective combat or other operations immediately upon arrival in an operational area.
