Dr. Kumar is currently working as a Research Scientist at the Biomedical Engineering Department, Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, NJ, USA 07030). Before this, he worked as a Research Scientist at the University of Texas at El Paso (USA) for three years.
The crux of his research involves parametric optimization of the 3D-printing process in conjunction with the composition, physical, and mechanical properties of the fabricated three-dimensional scaffolds to solve the complex tissue engineering (specifically bone tissue engineering) problems. Moreover, his work is focused on the cytocompatibility evaluation using conventional methods such as MTT assay as well as more advanced techniques like flow cytometry and biocompatibility assessment using in vivo methods. His work on electric field stimulation of cells under dynamic conditions is an exciting approach to study the science behind the cell behavior in a dynamic environment and has potential application in the treatment of damaged cardiac tissue as well as neurogenic degenerative diseases.
Dr. Kumar has earned his Doctorate in the Biomaterials field from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IITK), Kanpur, India in July 2013. Before this, he obtained his M. Tech. in Materials Science and Engineering from Thapar University, Patiala, India in the year 2008, and M. Sc. in Physics from Kumaun University, Nainital, India in the year 2004. For a brief stint (May-August 2011), Dr. Kumar was a Visiting Researcher at Brown University, Providence (USA). He has also visited Technische Universität Dresden, Germany as a Guest Researcher during February-March, 2014.
