2016 String Award Winner, Julia Costacurta
Julia Costacurta
Julia Costacurta, a senior at Moravian Academy, began playing violin in kindergarten and currently studies with Timothy Schwarz. She has served as concertmaster at the PMEA District 10 Orchestra and has also participated in the regional and state orchestras. Julia soloed with the Kutztown University Orchestra in 2014 after winning the high school division of their concerto competition. She has received an honorable mention from the Voorhees Concerto Competition twice, and her string quartet, Sixteen Strings, won the SATORI Chamber Music Competition in 2014. Once she discovered her passion for chamber music, Julia founded a piano trio chamber group at Moravian, which she has been the violinist for since her freshman year.
Academically, Julia is a National Merit Finalist, a National AP Scholar with Honor, and a member of the Cum Laude Honor society. In the summer of 2015, she was selected to be a part of the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences. Julia is also involved in the Moravian Harry Potter Alliance, Math Team, App Development Club, and Robotics Team. In her free time, Julia enjoys reading and making origami. Julia will begin college next fall and plans to major in engineering while remaining active in chamber music on campus.
