AndroidApps

Updated May 2018

Out of my interest in NLC (noctilucent clouds) and imaging the sky, I have decided to create apps that will let me do things in a way that makes sense to me.

Once I get my head wrapped around a basic app, I want to use the Samsung Gear 360 developer kit to let me better control the Gear 360 (2017) camera in order to make better twilight, halo, aurora, and hopefully meteor timelapses.

NLCplanner

Interestingly, I missed seeing an existing app out there, NLCWakeUp, that gives alerts, and includes local weather. At $2.39, it has had 10+ installs. Mine will be free - we have so few keen NLC folk out there, I'm not asking them for money.

Done:

  • Internal Test track accomplished! My first "Hello World" app.
  • Superbasic app: (simple reminder) list of upcoming datetimes of SDA (solar depression angle) for Edmonton (53.5N). Just fixed text.

To do:

  • List of favourite sites; manual lat,lon entry
  • Use phone's position to calculate values
  • Graph/table for times of spotting extensive, average, minimal displays
  • Show values for other dates
  • General information
  • Graphs showing period of visibility and frequency
  • Calculate SDA for an image in the phone's gallery

Gear 360 (2017) The 360 camera from Samsung

Not yet started!

To do:

  • Time-lapse but to individual images, not movie
  • Bracket images for improved HDR control
  • Bracket images during time-lapse, for later HDR
  • Control long exposures and ISO for aurora and meteors
  • Add advice and calculate consequences of choices
