Experience in the animation of research

Over the past years, I achieved several activities for animating the research, in particular after completing my Ph.D. study and starting as an assistant professor at the Dept. of Computer Science, University of Babylon. I will summarize them as follows.

1- Research Groups: when I came back to my University of Babylon, Nov 2015, there were no research groups, therefore, I introduced a demand to the Dean of the college to create a laboratory named CSRL (Computer Science Research Laboratory). Its main research goal is to model, to simulate, and to develop new algorithms in artificial intelligence, multimedia, networking, security, optimization, distributed, and parallel systems. There are 32 permanent members and 20 temporary members in the CSRL. CSRL is grouped into two teams according to their scientific backgrounds and their research interests. The first research team is named AIMS (Artificial Intelligence, Multimedia, and Security) and the second research team is called NODPA (Networking, Optimization, Distributed, and Parallel Algorithms). I have structured the CSRL Lab into these two groups and I determined the aims, research activities, and members for each group.

2- Project Proposal for World Bank Grant: I have submitted a project proposal to the World Bank Grant which is entitled "Embedded Systems Lab for training and smart solutions". This proposed project is shared between the University of Babylon (responsible for the project: Dr. Ali Kadhum Idrees) and a private company named UrukTech Electronics (responsible for the project: Mr. Bilal Asaad Mobader). The amount of money for this project is $150000 (One hundred and fifty thousand dollars). A brief summary of the project idea: most of the country's cities suffer from a great shortage of services, whether health, service, agricultural, environmental, transportation, etc. due to the failure to properly utilize resources and the failure to use modern technology to find smart solutions to these problems, for example, wasting energy and water resources and not providing a healthy and safe environment for people. The proposed project is to establish an embedded systems laboratory for training and smart solutions in order to train students to produce projects as smart solutions to most of the problems that Iraqi cities suffer from by using modern technology, communications, sensors and Internet of Things networks as tools to build smart applications and projects that have the ability to improve resources utilization and improve the quality and the efficiency of services provided to people within a safe and healthy environment. This project is still under study, and I have not received the final response from them yet.

3- Postgraduate Study: At the end of 2015, there was no postgraduate program in the Dept. of Computer Science, therefore, I participated in the proposal given to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR) to open an MSc. program study in my department. After the MHESR agreed to open the MSc. program because it satisfies the main requirements, I have performed many meetings with the research groups members in the CSRL Lab to activate and encourage the research in the Lab. Since Feb 2016, I was the Head of the Dept. of Computer Science and I improved the MSc. program by inviting several researchers (professors or assistant professors) from other universities in Iraq to give lectures and seminars to the MSc. students and to cooperate with the other research members of our teams in sharing the researches and supervision of the students. During this period, I invited assistant professor Árpád Huszák, Ph.D., Budapest University of Technology and Economics, to co-supervise one of the MSc. students with one of our team members.

In addition to the MSc. program study, I participated in opening the Higher Diploma program in computer science which is one year after the BSc. degree. This new study contributed to increasing research activity in the department.

I have served as a head of jury by MHESR to visit the Dept. of Computer Science, University of Karbala and to evaluate if it satisfies the requirements of opening the MSc. program study.

4- Conferences Participations: After completing my Ph.D. study in France in Oct 2015, I came back home and I started my work as an assistant professor at the University of Babylon. I participated in several International conferences inside and outside of my country. I can summarize them as follows.
