Alexandros Tavernarakis
Research fellow at the Institut of Photonic Sciences (ICFO - Barcelona)
I am a Belgian-born and Greek-raised physicist established in Spain.
I studied physics in the University of Crete and continued with post-graduate studies ( master’s and doctroral degree) in France (Grenoble, Lyon, Paris). At the present time, I hold a Research Fellow position in the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), Barcelona. My research activities are within the field of experimental optomechanics. I'm aiming at developing novel, ultra-sensitive techniques for measuring tiny resonators. My professional goal is two-fold: a) exploring the fundamental limits of the optomechanical coupling and b) developing sensing applications based on continuously measuring the motion of a nano-resonator.
I grew up enjoying free diving in the Mediterannean, playing tennis and having deep reverence for cinema, hard-rock music and books. Living in Catalunya, I discovered the joy of rock climbing and mountain hiking.
