Alexander (Sasha) Zakharov
I have done research in combinatorial and geometric group theory. In particular, I have worked on commensurability classification of right-angled Artin groups and of Baumslag-Solitar groups, Hanna Neumann type bounds for the intersection of subgroups in groups acting on trees, computing intersection of subgroups in some right-angled Artin groups, and the isomorphism problem for submonoids of virtually free groups.
I completed my PhD in December 2014 at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, under supervision of Anton Klyachko. I had received my degree in mathematics at the same university in 2011.
In 2021-2024 I was an assistant professor at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Wrocław, Poland.
In 2019-2020 I was a postdoc at the Chebyshev Laboratory of St. Petersburg State University.
In 2015-2017 and in the first half of 2019 I was a postdoc at the University of the Basque Country, in the "Groups, Topology and Applications" research group.
In 2017-2018 I was a postdoc at the Centre for Mathematics of the University of Porto (CMUP).
I was one of the local organizers of GAGTA 2017, yGGT8 and GTA: Gran Bilbao conferences in Bilbao.
I was organizing a Geometric Group Theory seminar in St Petersburg.
