ART & LANGUAGE LAB
237 Rockwell Hall
Students interested in conducting research should contact Dr. Kranjec for more information.
The lab is equipped for research using a variety of methods such as transcranial direct current stimulation (including HD-tDCS), eye tracking, and skin conductance (including wireless biosensors).
Through our affiliation with the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition at Carnegie Melon University, collaborations with other members of the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics at the University of Pennsylvania, and Duquesne's Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, resources for conducting fMRI and neuropsychological patient research are available.
The lab investigates how meaning is represented in the mind and brain; in different media like art and language.
To ground our investigations of meaning in language, we focus on basic concepts like space and time.
To study meaning in art (or what art means) we use empirical methods in trying to reduce complex evaluative judgments into smaller parts.
