About US

ALBA Consort was formed in 2008 under the direction of artistic director Margo Gezairlian Grib and features four core accomplished artists of early music: Margo Gezairlian Grib, Haig Manoukian, Rex Benincasa, and Dennis Cinelli. The word “ALBA” means white, the white light of dawn, and an ALBA is the troubadour genre of a morning song - a song of a lover as dawn approaches.

Dedicated to the ancient music of Medieval Europe on period instruments, ALBA Consort has performed at various concert series in New York and on Long Island including the Church of the Heavenly Rest, with the Long Island Baroque Ensemble, the Floyd Memorial Library of Greenport, NY and the Amagansett Free Library. ALBA continues to pursue original programming tracing cross cultural influences through ancient music. Their CD “Voyage across the Mediterranean” was recorded live at the Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City.

ALBA Consort has been invited to participate in an upcoming musical documentary of Ancient Andalusia filmed on location in Spain.

“Alba Consort performs the music and song that emerged from an era of peace and mutual respect among cultures in medieval Spain.” Suffolk Times, April 30, 2009.
