THREE BROTHERS WANT THIS RING

SCOTTISH RITERS: A GENEROUS OFFER. Read on. Brother Jack Ussery is an old-time member of Oso Naval 1282, and also he is a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason in the Houston Valley. Jack is not getting around anymore, and he has decided a good plan for his 32º ring is to pass it on to a Scottish Rite Mason who might enjoy having a ring. He gave it to Bro. Mando Caceres with the idea that maybe I could get the ring passed on, and Mando delivered the ring to me. It looks good, but you can tell it has been worn. I told Jack that he might have a lot of takers on his offer, and that if he did, I would devise some sort of lottery or drawing to see who gets the ring. I mentioned to Jack that the ring size is pretty small, and he volunteered that he would pay to have the ring resized if the recipient needs it resized. Jack doesn’t want any money, and he doesn’t want to give it to someone who wants it in order to try to sell it. I phoned Herb Arbuckle to see if he knew Jack, and he said yes, and I told him why I was asking. Herb said he would like to have it. I said, wait a minute, what would you do with it, and Herb said, why, I would get it resized and wear it. So that is one legitimate candidate to receive the ring. I have heard from one other Brother (James Bryant) who would like to have the ring. Bro. Darryl Dishongh also wants it. If interested, let me hear from you. I would prefer to hear from you by e-mail; use twimbo @ aol.com.

INGLESIDE LODGE NO. 1361 (meets first and third Mondays, 7:30 PM). Driving directions to Ingleside Lodge No. 1361. At Gregory, take the Ingleside road. At the main intersection in Ingleside (the traffic light at the HEB--Dairy Queen corner) turn right. Go a few blocks to Fourth Street and turn left (turn left at the Stripes/Valero business). Proceed down Fourth Street and watch for the Lodge on your right at Henrietta St. There is a school on the left side of Fourth Street opposite the Lodge.Ingleside 1361 is not a member of the Sam Houston Hall of Fame.

SUNSET LODGE NO. 1388 (meets second and fourth Mondays, 7:30 PM) is at 8314 Leopard in Corpus Christi. Proceed on I-37 to Exit 7, Suntide-Tuloso. Proceed south on Suntide to Leopard. Turn right (west) on Leopard, go one-half mile and take the little street named Lodge Lane to the right and you’ll see the Lodge. The Grand Lodge locator says the address is 101 Lodge Lane. The postal service ZIP code directory says 101 Lodge Lane is not a valid address. If you use a navigator, go to 8314 Leopard Street and that should take you to the little street labeled Lodge Lane. Sunset 1388 is not a member of the Sam Houston Hall of Fame.

PORTLAND LODGE NO. 1411 (meets second and fourth Tuesdays, 7:30 PM) is at 124 Sixth Ave in Portland, Texas (corner of Sixth and Commerce). From Corpus Christi, take the Moore Ave exit off Hwy 181 (SR-35). Proceed easterly two blocks on Moore and bend left in a big curve onto Fifth Ave. (If you pass the fire station on your left, you have gone past Fifth Ave.) On Fifth, go about three-tenths of a mile and turn left on Commerce. Drive past Sixth Ave on your right, and turn to your right into the parking lot behind the Lodge. Enter the lodge through the parking lot door, not the Sixth Avenue door. Portland 1411 is not a member of the Sam Houston Hall of Fame.

CORPUS CHRISTI YORK RITE MASONIC TEMPLE (2638 Terrace St). The Temple is on the section of Baldwin that runs between Ayers and Crosstown Expressway, at the intersection of Terrace Street with Baldwin. The Chapter of Royal Arch Masons meets on the second Wednesday of odd-numbered months, with a practice session on the fourth Wednesday of odd-numbered months. The Council of Royal and Select Masters meets on the second Wednesday of even-numbered months, with practice on the fourth Wednesday of even-numbered months. The Commandery of Knights Templar meets on the second Thursday of each month, with a practice session on the fourth Thursday. Driving from San Antonio way, follow I-37 toward Corpus Christi. Do not exit to the right onto Padre Island Drive (Rt 358). Continue about 3.7 miles and exit right on Crosstown Expressway, Rt 286. On 286, continue about 1.9 miles and take the Baldwin St exit. Take a left on Baldwin and follow it five short blocks and Terrace Street will be on your left, and you’ll see the Temple at the intersection. From Portland, or from other sections of Corpus Christi, find Crosstown Expressway and follow the instructions above, or find Ayers and follow it to the intersection of Ayers and Baldwin, turn westward, and follow Baldwin to Terrace.

On the days specified, Army posts fly the garrison flag, measuring 20 by 38 feet (6.1 by 11.6 meters) in lieu of the usual post flag (8.95 by 17 feet, or 2.7 by 5.2 meters). This has been the approximate size of the garrison flag since at least 1834, when the Regulations of the U.S. Army decreed that the garrison flag would not exceed 20 by 40 feet. In addition, Army posts may display the garrison flag for regional celebrations when directed by the post commander.

Thanks to Walt Greene for the above useful and informative flag information.
