About Us

The Akron Cardinals are a 35+ entry to the annual Roy Hobbs World Series. We are a group of friends who believe that playing baseball should not end just because we become adults.  While Major League Baseball players fight over multi-million dollar contracts, we fight to get to games and practices after we work our regular jobs.  Our days are not spent in batting cages and training rooms; they are spent as project managers, students, construction workers, computer programmers, and delivery drivers.

During the period 2002-2018, the team was a 25+/28+/35+ affiliate of Roy Hobbs Baseball's flagship league, Northeast Ohio Roy Hobbs. During the 2019 season, the Cardinals played in the OhioMSBL 25+ division. The team has participated in the RHWS twelve times:

2002 | 2003 | 2004 | 2005* | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 | 2019 | 2020 | 2021 | 2023**

The Akron Cardinals were established in 2002 under the direction of Ben McGarryTony Spinelli served as manager from 2004-2007.  Paul Thompson has led the team since 2008.

*Hurricane Wilma pushed the start of the tournament from Sunday to Wednesday and we still played all 6 guaranteed games.**In 2022, Hurricane Ian leveled Fort Myers Beach and canceled the tournament for the first time in its history.
