I married Anjali Bahadur in December '82. She did her schooling from Welhams, Dehradun, and Scindia School, Gwalior. She has a BA from Delhi's Miranda House. She did some French from the Alliance Française in Pondicherry, and speaks some German as well.

She ran a home-based business for six years and now works with the Universal Postal Union, a UN specialized agency. She was on the Parent Teacher Committee of the International School of Berne, and is a skilled navigator and map reader. She is passionate about scrapbooking.

We have two boys. Jayant will soon be completing an MBA from California Lutheran University in Los Angeles, and Dhruv is studying for a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in Northeastern University, Boston.

My mother-in-law lives with us as well.

My father was a maintenance engineer with Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). My mother lives in Delhi. A diplomat par excellence, she is the person with the best human relations skills I know.

I have two younger brothers. Shankar, currently a Rear Admiral in the Indian Navy, is CSO(P&A) [Chief Staff Officer, Personnel and Administration] of the Western Naval Command in Mumbai. Ashok, based in Bangalore, is a senior vice-president with Fullerton Securities and Wealth Advisers, a part of the Sovereign Investment Fund of the Singapore Government.
