Why employ a tutor?
Students of all abilities benefit from dedicated individual teaching.
Those who are coasting towards a grade that will not do them justice need reinvigoration to achieve their full potential.
Others may struggle to keep up, when just a little extra one-to-one guidance will enable them to stay on top of what they are being taught in the classroom.
Even the ones who excel can be left to stagnate if they find the work too easy. Some well-chosen extension work will leave them fresh for the next topic.
In one-to-one sessions I can find out which areas need addressing and work specifically on those. If some rote learning is called for I won't shy away from that, but my experience tells me that a deeper understanding of the concepts will reap benefits. With full understanding a student remembers far more, and can apply principles to answer non-standard questions. Exam confidence then naturally increases.
So why me?
I love maths. It’s a wonderful subject. If I can impart even some of its beauty to a student who sees it as a chore I will have helped them improve.
I aim always to go a little beyond what's possible in a classroom, and to inspire students with the elegance of what they're doing.
Someone who understands and enjoys the subject will achieve more than someone who can't see the point.
