Email received from David Fethney
Hi Ken,
I`ve attached a couple of pics of my restored RAAF Jeep trailer which I`ve now had for a few years.
I was wondering if it would be possible to add them to your web site under the “help wanted” banner?
I believe I`m the third owner since it was disposed by Govt. auction at Cannon Hill some 30 odd years ago. The previous owner used it on frequent camping trips towed by his former air traffic control “Follow Me” Jeep.
It was still painted RAAF blue grey when I obtained it and since re painted .
The modified canopy is very well done and I assume by unit “metal bashers”, but why it was done, I`m unable to determine. The extent of the modification renders the vehicle permanently unusable as a standard Jeep trailer, so
obviously official sanction would need be obtained from Support Command before work commenced. No old records of old RAAF vehicles are available as I understand these were “lost” when being transferred to Canberra War Memorial.
Given the many musterings included in the GEMS site, perhaps a member may recognize the vehicle and advise me the reason for the mod and where it was deployed.
If this request doesn`t fit in with your site format, no problem. I do still enjoy trawling through the entries as they seem to change daily.
Kind regards David Fethney.
Guys David is an Ex MTD and has been a big help in adding photos to this site Ken "Macca" McLeod
