¡Bienvenidos!
Welcome, Students and Parents to IB Spanish and 4 Honors!
I would like to congratulate you in your selection of IB and 4 Honors.
I am looking forward to a great year as we explore the wonderful world of the Spanish language and cultures.
My goal is that as you develop your language skills, you become more comfortable and confident about your ability to communicate in Spanish and that you become increasingly aware of the similarities and differences between your native culture and Spanish culture. I hope to have a part in preparing you for the global economy of the 21st century where fluency in another world language is vital.
I encourage you to take advantage of any opportunity you have to use the Spanish that you are learning. You can listen to Spanish music, watch Spanish movies and television and read in Spanish. Be sure to check out the links page of my website for resources. I have a myriad of wonderful resources.
As a Spanish teacher, I foster a love for the culture and language of not only Spanish speaking countries but also cultures of countries around the world. My homeland, where I was born and raised, is Peru. I am native of Cuzco where the Incan ruins of Machu-Picchu reside. Growing up in Peru with a wonderful and loving family who embraced people of all backgrounds, ethnicities, and creeds has shaped me into the person I am today. Throughout my life, I have been exposed to numerous varieties of cultures and languages and have developed a deep appreciation for the diversity of the world. As a Spanish teacher, I teach my students to learn the cultures of other countries. In my opinion, a student cannot truly master the language of a country without first having been immersed in the culture.
My husband of 31 years, Geoff, and my son, Brandon, share my passion for travel and adventure. We have been very fortunate to have traveled to many places around the world. My husband and I love going out dancing and eating ethnic food, wherever we might happen to be. Our family is into hiking and finding new adventures around the globe. We love spending time with friends and family too Our beloved dog, Willy B. Good accompanies to many adventures.
I am very passionate about teaching my students. The main reason behind my passion is simply that I LOVE WHAT I DO. This is the reason why I do my best to make learning the language exciting so my students can gain the same passion for the language that I have. My desire for the students to succeed is a constant factor behind my drive to make my classroom an exciting place to be.
