Art Goes To School of Delaware Valley, Inc. (AGTS) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization of over 500 members, who bring art appreciation classes to nearly 100,000 elementary school children in the Delaware Valley each year.
AGTS volunteers make the visual arts accessible to elementary school students. They bring information to the children in an impartial and informal environment. Children are encouraged to "look, listen, and feel" art. Art plays an important role in developing a child's imagination and exposes them to works of a wide cross-section of peoples and cultures. Volunteers use reproductions that run the gamut from cave paintings to contemporary art. Living artists, female artists, African-American artists, and a wide variety of Native American and other tribal groups are also represented among examples of art from Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Oceania, the Middle East, and the Americas.
AGTS volunteers are lifelong learners who love educating themselves about art, enjoy the camaraderie of being with others who enjoy art, and receive great satisfaction sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge about art with children.
Art Goes To School of the Delaware Valley is currently organized into 38 chapters representing over 40 school districts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
The Haddonfield chapter of Art Goes To School was founded in 1978.
