A new type of Access Kerb - the Kassel Low Friction Kerb - has been installed by Merseytravel as part of a trial on a Quality Bus Corridor at Page Moss, in Knowsley, Merseyside.
The concept is the invention of Bob Barlow of Agito, working in conjunction with designers from Brett Landscaping, manufacturers of the highly successful and widely used Kassel Kerb system.
The unique feature of the Low Friction Kassel Kerb is a highly polished granite insert affixed to the kerb face. This is designed to reduce friction between the tyres of buses and the Kassel Kerb when the two surfaces come into contact at the point of docking with the boarding and alighting point at accessible bus stops.
Bob Barlow and Agito partners, working closely with Merseytravel and Brett Landscaping, will be monitoring the performance of the trial Kassel Low Friction Kerb installation, to evaluate the benefits of this new idea.
