Agito welcomes the announcement by the Government that it will fund up to £470m towards the cost of building the Mersey Gateway second crossing of the River Mersey. In 2009/10 Agito team members developed a Sustainable Travel Strategy for the borough of Halton, centred on the Mersey Gateway Project. The go-ahead will enable Halton Council and its partners to progress these measures, which should see significant enhancements to public transport, cycling and walking across the borough and the wider Liverpool City Region.
Agito has also examined the role of the new crossing in terms of Network Resilience - the benefits it will bring when there is a major incident on the surrounding motorway network judged against the current highway network.
