AFFI Music Ministry Assessment

The purpose of the Music Ministry Assessment is to allow administrators of the AFFI Music Ministry to determine the skill level of a singer or musician for the purpose of placement in service or training within AFFI. There are 4 ministries within the AFFI Music Ministry which require an assessment. These ministries are the AFFI Praise Team, the AFFI Band, the AFIYA Band and the AFFI Orchestra. All assessments may be performed in-person or by way of video submission using any of the following - Email, YouTube, DropBox, Vimeo, Hangouts, FaceTime, Skype, or Oovoo.  If you are submitting a video-based assessment, all requirements may be submitted as a single video or each requirement may be submitted in separate videos. AFFI Praise Team

Perform the following in-person or submit a video:

1. Sing “The Star Spangled Banner” a cappella (SOPRANOS sing in G major; ALTOS sing in E major; TENORS sing in C major).

2. Sing the ALTO part of the first stanza of the Hymn “Amazing Grace” (by John Newton/William Walker) a cappella - sing through once, change the key up one whole step - sing the ALTO part of the first stanza again in the new key.

3. Submit video of yourself leading a song with a choir or group.

4. Have approval of your pastor.

AFFI Band

This music assessment applies to keyboardist, organist, guitarist, and bassist.

Perform the following in-person or submit a video:

1. Play "All Of My Help" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6sZwdOdVR0

2. Play the C major scale ascending and descending two octaves.

3. Play the D major scale ascending and descending two octaves.

4. Play the E major scale ascending and descending two octaves.

5. Submit video of yourself playing with a band accompanying a choir or group.

6. Have approval of your pastor.

Drummer assessment - submit a video of yourself playing in a band that is accompanying a choir or group.

AFIYA Band

This music assessment applies to keyboardist, organist, guitarist, and bassist.

Perform the following in-person or submit a video:

1. Play "Thank You Lord" by Walter Hawkins - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FXq1Eff4M4

2. Be creative and play "Oh How I Love Jesus" in any key.

3. Play the C major scale ascending and descending two octaves.

4. Play the E major scale ascending and descending two octaves.

5. Submit video of yourself playing with a band accompanying a choir or group.

6. Have approval of your pastor.

AFFI Orchestra

Perform the following in-person or submit a video.

Sight read music provided by the AFFI Music Department Staff.

Play the following scales one octave depending on which instrument you are auditioning for:

1. Flute, Oboe, and Trombone E flat Concert

2. Clarinet: Concert E flat their F scale

3. Horn: Concert E flat their B flat scale

4. String instruments: E flat scale and G Major

5. Have approval of your pastor.
