Kongju National University (KNU) has been selected as the lead institution for the “Advanced Manufacturing Convergence Talent Development Project,” supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT).
This project is a national R&D program designed to train highly skilled researchers in advanced manufacturing and Manufacturing AX, which means AI Transformation in manufacturing industries. The project will be carried out for five years, with a total budget of approximately KRW 10 billion, including KRW 4.6 billion for KNU.
Professor Dongkyoung Lee from the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at KNU will serve as the principal investigator. KNU will lead the consortium with KAIST, GIST, Yonsei University, and POSTECH.
The project will support postdoctoral researchers who will work with companies to solve real industrial problems. The main research areas include AI-based design automation, manufacturing process optimization, digital manufacturing innovation, and advanced materials and component development.
Through this project, postdoctoral researchers will conduct industry-linked research in key fields such as semiconductors, displays, batteries, biotechnology, robotics, defense, and future mobility. The project also aims to build a strong industry-academia-research cooperation platform and train AI·AX experts needed by industry.
Professor Lee said, “This project shows that KNU’s research capabilities in advanced manufacturing, future mobility, and AI convergence have been recognized at the national level. We will contribute to Korea’s manufacturing innovation by developing Manufacturing AX technologies and training excellent research talent.”
Through this project, KNU is expected to become an important hub for Manufacturing AI innovation and advanced manufacturing talent development.
