We are proud to announce that Dr. Youngjin Seo has joined the National Fire Research Institute as a researcher in the Field Response Team of the Response Technology Research Division.
Dr. Seo has been a dedicated member of the ADLAM Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Dongkyoung Lee at Kongju National University. He earned his Ph.D. in February 2026. His research has focused on laser processing technologies applicable to the entire life cycle of nuclear power plants, including nuclear decommissioning, maintenance, and safety enhancement.
Throughout his doctoral career, Dr. Seo demonstrated outstanding academic productivity and research excellence, including:
Receipt of 8 academic and research awards, including the prestigious Kongju National University President’s Award
Publication of 10 SCI-indexed journal articles, with 7 additional journal papers currently in preparation or under review
Presentation of his work at more than 100 international and domestic conferences
Filing and registration of 15 patents, including 8 registered patents and 7 patent applications
Receipt of 12 academic and research awards, including the prestigious Kongju National University President’s Award
At the National Fire Research Institute, Dr. Seo is currently responsible for the development of response equipment in the Field Response Team of the Response Technology Research Division. His work focuses on researching and developing new firefighting and rescue equipment aimed at improving the field response capabilities of firefighters and protecting human lives. This includes evaluating and validating the performance of equipment applicable to various disaster sites, including fire, rescue, and emergency medical response situations, while enhancing field applicability through technology development and equipment improvement based on the needs of firefighting personnel.
Dr. Seo plans to continue advancing his research on portable laser systems for lifesaving and rescue applications, contributing to the development of innovative technologies applicable to the firefighting field. Through these efforts, he is expected to improve rescue efficiency and safety at disaster sites and provide a new direction for the future advancement of firefighting technologies.
