Title: Strengthening Global Research Ties: Prof. Lee’s Visit to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln
From April 21 to April 25, 2025, Professor Dongkyoung Lee visited the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) to foster research collaboration and enhance institutional partnerships.
During the visit, Prof. Lee delivered an invited talk titled “Laser-Aided Manufacturing and Its Cross-Sector Applications: Advancing the Frontiers of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.” The lecture attracted an audience of approximately 100 participants, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members, and researchers from various engineering departments. His presentation highlighted recent advancements in laser-based manufacturing technologies and their cross-sectoral applications in fields such as batteries, fuel cells, semiconductors, and nuclear decommissioning.
In addition to the invited talk, Prof. Lee held strategic meetings with leading faculty and administrators, including Prof. Bai Cui (Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering), Prof. Yongfeng Lu and Prof. Craig Zuhlke (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), and Prof. Jeffery E. Shield (Department Chair, Mechanical and Materials Engineering).
He also met with Mr. Blayne Sharpe (Director, Global Partnerships & Initiatives), Ms. Traci D. Gunderson (Assistant Director, Global Partnerships & Initiatives), and Prof. Lance C. Pérez (Dean, College of Engineering). Discussions centered on 1) joint research initiatives, 2) Ph.D. student and faculty exchange programs, and 3) the potential establishment of dual Ph.D. degree programs between Kongju National University and UNL.
Moreover, Prof. Lee met with his graduate students, Mr. Youngjin Seo and Mr. Seungeun Baek, who were participating in the Ph.D. exchange program at UNL for durations of 1 year and 6 months, respectively. Their exchanges were supported by the BK21 FOUR Program funded by the National Research Foundation of Korea and the Global Human Resources Program for Core Technology of Future Mobility funded by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) (Project No. RS-2024-00435841), respectively.
