I have many tools that I use including acupuncture, acupressure, chi nei tsang, pediatric tui na (chinese massage for children), essential oils, Theta healing, Toltec shamanic energy techniques, guided meditations and natural remedies including nutrition, chinese herbs, digestive enzymes and probiotics. I am an advocate of homeopathic, herbal, holistic, food as medicine medicine. The holistic modalities that I use are chosen on an individual basis --every person is treated as an individual and all treatments vary depending on the issues that we are treating.

About me:

There are many things that brought me into the path of healing and Chinese medicine. I had a lot of imbalance in my life from a very young age, some of it was diet related. Now I strive to keep my life in balance which takes a lot of effort. It is hard work taking care of our bodies and minds.

I didn't start finding out about alternatives to Western Medicine until I was in my mid-20's, long after health problems started. If you want to know more about those problems that brought me to a holistic healing practice, click here.

  • I am passionate about nutrition! And providing children and adults with education about foods that nourish bodies and their brains and help the children grow up to be strong, healthy, balanced, happy people. For the adults, if they find themselves in a state of imbalance, my passion is in helping them connect the way the feel (physically and emotionally) with the foods they eat and helping them come up with a plan to make changes that will last in their lives.

  • I am passionate about helping individuals who seek physical healing through spiritual growth and transformation. One way I do this is to look at the emotions, thoughts, beliefs and habitual patterns in thinking. My work can get pretty deep if patient is willing to go into their "stuff" to look at all aspects of their illness.

    • I often look first at how our emotions are being affected by the foods that we eat. If someone is eating/drinking all sugary drinks (even fruit juice) and candy/ice cream/sweets along with fried greasy foods, and they feel terrible emotionally (stress, anxiety, depression, irritability) and/or physically we start by looking at the foods being eaten. Foods affect how the body feels. Changing the foods we eat, will help the body and changing the diet is a process. So once we start bringing some balance into the foods eaten, we can also look at the emotions on a different level. However, I believe that while some of our emotional issues come from pure biological processes related to the poor choice in foods we consume, others come from the beliefs that we hold. Its not always easy to figure this out because they are both tied to each other. We eat a certain way because of the way we feel and we feel a certain way because of the foods we eat. Its a spiral, they are tied together. It takes some desire and will to figure it out and work on it and I see my role here as a facilitator to help my clients figure out their way through it all. Again, it is all a process.

  • I am passionate about teaching girls about their menstrual cycles and how this amazing, natural cycle is a good indicator of balance or imbalance in their bodies. I love helping them learn about their bodies and the connection between their bodies and their emotions and beliefs and teaching them about alternatives to pain medication, and using their cycles as tools for transformation. I also love to help girls and women build better relationship with their bodies. I am passionate about helping women and girls become strong, healthier and more vibrant.

I have a Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine. I studied for 4 years at the Academy of Oriental Medicine of Austin. I have another Masters degree in Communication. I've taken seminars on Acupuncture and Pregnancy, Childbirth, Infertility, Pediatric illnesses, pain, Functional Blood Chemistry and Functional Endocrinology, Facial Rejuvenation, TCM skin disorders, Recurrent Pregnancy Loss, Toltec/Shamanic energy healing, Theta Healing and Pranic Healing. I took a teacher training course in Ashtanga Yoga from It's Yoga in San Francisco so that I would have the knowledge to combine chinese medicine and yoga stretches to help people help themselves. I'm extremely interested in nutrition and people's emotions, thoughts and beliefs and how they affect the body.

I love to cook and find ways to make the little people in my life, eat healthy food which can be a struggle! Beside finding ways to cook healthy foods and make them taste yummy, I love to read, hike, bike, practice yoga and take pilates classes. I find the combination of strengthening and stretching just what my hyper mobile joints and muscles need. I n a previous life (pre-children), I loved to inline skate which I would like to someday resume -- maybe another inline skating marathon on the horizon! I love learning about local plants that can be used for medicine and have started making my own medicines for home out of wildcrafted plants. I am looking forward to learning more!

At home, my husband and I strive to create balance in our lives and our children's lives. In general, we don't watch television during the daytime when the children are awake (and we don't use computer games daily but we do have scheduled time for this) and we try to make sure they have adequate time to exercise, be outside, play with friends, read, talk with us and be listened to and just hang out with the family. It is an ongoing process -- sometimes we have more balance than other times but our general flight plan is to keep our lives as balanced as possible -- it makes everyone happier. We both read "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families" and it was an enlightening experience for us. The kids read, "7 Habits of Happy Kids" and they loved it. Their favorite story was about a little girl/squirel named Sophie who spends all of her time reading and doesn't have balance in her life -- she learns about balance and why it is important. This was a favorite of the kids! I have also done a 6 week parenting course based on the book, "How To Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids will Talk," twice (!) and am reading and listening to Marshall Rosenberg's Non-Violent Communication. We are also listening to the Adventures in Wisdom program by Renaye Thornborrow, a local Austin mom who developed this program to help her kids deal with all that comes with being a kid. Both of my kids love to read and look forward to our nightly reading ritual before bed. Our Favorite kid books at the moment are Harry Potter, Lightning Thief series, Famous Five by Enid Blyton and Little House in the Big Woods.

I am dedicated to my own personal spiritual transformation and have been for over 19 years and I use what I have learned in my practice and at home.
