Abbotsley Village Hall turned 50 this year and the villagers of Abbotsley celebrated the occasion and the journey of their hall with a party on Saturday 30 November. It was a great event and a fun time was had by all. The band (Nic James Experience) was fantastic and got everyone (young and ‘slightly’ older) up and dancing to classic tracks and fabulous music from 1969 (the year the Hall was gifted). Abbotsley Village Hall started its life as a school. Built in 1844, it served the local community as such for many years to include both the First and the Second World Wars. Sadly, in the 1960’s the ‘powers’ at that time decided the school should close. However, all was not lost as the owners generously chose to gift the building to the village of Abbotsley so it could continue to serve the community, albeit in a different form. In 1969, it opened its doors as Abbotsley Village Hall and, thanks to generous support, donations and successful grants it has been renovated over the years to become the wonderful building it is now. It has certainly helped to build many happy memories over the fifty years with many more to come.
