Pre-Covid, my family was proud to host Philosophy Nights at our home every other Wednesday night. It's a chance for fellow graduate students to present and discuss their developing work. We also have any number of spontaneous but interesting conversations.
Here's some of us talking about induction in Aristotle. Upcoming sessions will include papers on Heidegger and onto-theology, Locke as a communitarian, and Rorty's epistemology.
Every semester I run a philosophy movie night for my students. I invite their other "First-Year-Experience" teaching fellows, and we all have dinner while watching a thought-provoking film. Afterwards we have a discussion about the film. Previous philosophy movie nights have included screenings of Stagecoach, Rashomon, and Being There. This semester I plan to show Crimes and Misdemeanors.
I have participated in graduate student pro-seminars and instructional training. For the pro-seminars, I discussed getting started in graduate school. For instructional training, I have participated in workshops on leading a class discussion and on generating writing assignments. Additionally, I have worked with the Associate Dean of my department to address the issue of student plagiarism.
