WHAT IS IT?
The Club is comprised of a group of people who get together semi-annually to enjoy an evening of dining, dancing, and socializing.
WHAT IS THE FORMAT FOR THE EVENING?
As they arrive, members and their guests are welcomed by host couples in the foyer and invited to enter the ballroom to enjoy socializing through cocktail hour, which runs from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. At 7:00, members and guests are seated and served their meal selection. The festivities continue as the live band provides music for dining and dancing from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.
WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE?
The events are black tie optional; tuxedos, suits, cocktail and long dresses are the norm.
HOW DID IT ORIGINATE?
The nine in the club’s name were men with an idea. Evan C. Crossley was the prime mover, and it was his idea back in 1955 to introduce a new type of social event for a congenial group of couples then in or approaching middle age, since the usual dances were not meeting with the needs of this group. Evan and eight other men each invited ten friends and their wives to form a group of 198 persons.

HOW DOES THE CLUB FUNCTION?
The “nine” became a revolving group, with a representative from each of the nine units. To insure experience, as well as an annual infusion of “new blood”, the terms of office were limited to three years, staggered so that three new members are designated each year. As a rule, the new representative is named by the outgoing member of each group.
PURPOSE:
The reigning “nine” govern themselves without formal organization, although a chairmen’s chairman, or president, is usually elected along with a secretary and treasurer.
