In late May the men of the Trident Division traveled by truck convoy to Camp Old Gold located near Yerville, France. In the middle of June, the 97th shipped out of Le Havre on the Brazil and several other troopships. In the latter part of June, the Trident Division arrived in New York, received a grand welcome home from the fireboats and the civilian populace, and proceeded by train to Camp Shanks, near Nyack, New York. The soldiers then received thirty-day furloughs.
