Science Bus Flyer for Spring 2021

Feel free to print this flyer out or distribute it around!

Lesson Format:

We will separate students into smaller rooms based on grade level, so that they will have more time to ask questions and interact with our volunteer teachers.

The lessons will be one-hour, and will feature a mix of

  • science videos

  • guided discussions with volunteers

  • games

  • other fun activities!

Have any fun ideas for activities we can incorporate into a lesson? Let us know by emailing contact.sciencebus@gmail.com, or by visiting our Contact Us page.

Registration notes:

  • Lessons are all completely free!

  • All students are allowed to register. However, we have prepared our lessons with 4th-6th grade students in mind, and they may be less suitable for students outside of that age range.

  • We will be capping the registration if we receive too many signups. Register now, before it's too late! (we will also keep track of a wait list)

  • You can register for individual lessons! If your student is not interested in a topic, or can't make it to a lesson, you can indicate as such on the registration form.

  • You will need to fill out a liability waiver as part of the form.

FAQs:

  • Will I have to pay or put in my credit card to register?
Not at all! Our lessons are totally free, no strings attached.

  • Can I still register if my student is home-schooled or otherwise not officially affiliated with a school?
Absolutely! We welcome any who will benefit from our program.

  • How do I know that the lessons will be safe, even if they're virtual?
All of our volunteers are required to undergo safety training before they are allowed to teach, even in virtual lessons. We also reserve the right to remove a participant if they pose a threat to the safety of the rest of the students.

  • If I can't make it to all of the lessons, can I register for only some of the lessons?
Absolutely! There is a part of the form that will ask you which lessons you are interested in attending. Register here.

  • Where can I find the zoom link?
We will not be posting the zoom link on this website anywhere, in order to protect the safety of our students. However, you should receive an email upon registration that contains the link, and we will send it out again prior to the lesson.

  • Can I, as a parent, sit in on the lessons?
We would appreciate it if you could, in general, refrain from taking part in the lessons. We value the environment of exploration and energy that we are able to foster in students, and the presence of parents may make our students feel self-conscious or otherwise detract from their independent learning. That being said, if you want to listen in away from the camera, and are able to do so without disturbing the class, we will certainly allow it.

  • Can I call into the lessons instead of using Zoom?
Yes! However, please be warned that this will likely be a less engaging experience. We will utilize screen sharing, recorded videos, and live demonstrations from our volunteers. If you are not connected to Zoom to see these things, it may be hard to follow along with the action.

  • Further questions or concerns?
Feel free to email us at contact.sciencebus@gmail.com, or visit our Contact Us page! We will get back to you as soon as we can, and probably feature your question on our updated FAQs!
