Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Just because I was going to be in Northwood, I decided to throw an odd-year reunion party. Unfortunately, it turned into a really ODD year with Covid hovering over the plans. Jerry and Betty, Myra, LaVern, Vic and Nola, Annie and Dave joined us in the Woodgrille at the Casino for a lovely evening. With our small group, we could really enjoy quality conversation. And the food was delicious. I was close to cancelling it, but thankful it worked for those of us who could attend. It was too dark in the room for good photos, but Vic got a few pictures. So just because we cautiously could, we did have a good gathering.
The saddest news is that Arlynn McHenry passed away in November. His daughter, Sarah Wacholz, wrote to say that Mac did not want a visitation or funeral, but to go peacefully into that good night where Ruthie was waiting for him. I did not find an obituary for this well-liked good guy. He will be missed.
Merry Christmas 2020!!
This will be a very short note as most of you are living a similar life of careful days with face masks and enclosures in our homes or apartments.
I live 5 minutes from my daughter, but I cannot go there nor can she come here. My daughter, Diane; son, Rob; brothers, Chuck and Dennis; grandchildren, Hailey, Eric, and Tristen; and great-granddaughter, Rylan keep me up to date by the telephone. I can watch 6-month-old Rylan grow up overnight which is such a joy!!
So, stay safe and pray daily!! Maybe 2021 will be better!!!

Editor’s Note: Carol is anticipating two more babies this spring. Two of her grandchildren are expectant parents. Yay for Carol! She is such a delight to talk to on the phone, and she is so helpful to those around her.
Merry Christmas to the Class of 1957
It now has been twenty-five fun filled years since we retired in December of 1995. Spending the winters in Arizona has been great in escaping the cold and snow and living here in “The Valley of the Sun". Carlie and Zeth, our granddaughter live 65 miles from us in their Historic Adobe Home in Phoenix, AZ In June 2019 we became proud great grandparents with the arrival of Vayda Joann Tovrea. Our family increases very slowly. Two daughters, one granddaughter and now Vayda added to the family. In the first week in January 2021 we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of g grand daughter number two.
Our scheduled flight back to Iowa got delayed four times and we finally got a flight out to Des Moines on May 5th. The plane size that we were on was about a 200 passenger with around 25 aboard, including the crew. Our arrival in AZ this season was on October 30th. The plane was full and overbooked. Flying has really cut down on the traveling time. Now it is only takes about 10 hours with the help of our daughters transporting us to and from the Des Moines Airport.
On October 3rd I enjoyed the small 63rd reunion of the Class of 1957. Covid again, contributed to the attendance. Thanks, Cynthia, for arranging everything. It was fun seeing all the "Old People".
Hopefully this dreaded Covid will just a memory after the vaccinations that are on the way, and life in our Great Country can get back to normal and resemble the country we all love. That family can get together as we have in the past and not have to hide behind masks and rubber gloves. As we look back on all the activities, we are amazed that at one time we actually went to work each day before we retired.
Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and HEALTHY, HAPPY NEW YEAR.
LaVern and Sheryl Anderson
Editor’s Note: Thank you for coming, LaVern! And congratulations on that new addition.
Myra Harris:
I’m working on year end bookwork as I have my hands in a lot of entities not only for us but community. I always end up with the treasurer’s jobs which end up with reports. Christmas will be different this year as we have decided not to all gather here on Christmas Eve. 14 of my grandchildren and great grandchildren have had Covid and are recovered so with 52 in the family there could be a lot of spread if someone should be coming down with it. I told everyone we are going to have Christmas in July. Two weddings were cancelled until next July, and two babies are due. Not the to be married couples. Since last year 2 spouses were added and 3 babies. I have lost a lot of friends due to Cancer and Covid. It breaks my heart to have to part with these great people. Weather has been great making the farming end of it easier. I started making Christmas cookies today so will share some with family friends and the customers of the girl’s restaurants. I’m doing okay health-wise and thank God every day I can get up and go.
Merry Christmas, Myra
Life without God is like an unsharpened pencil. It has no point.
Editor’s Note: Congratulations on staying healthy and happy!
Good News from Vic and Nola:
Last year I asked for prayers regarding my atrial fibrillation. In the middle of January, it suddenly stopped and has been OK ever since. Thanks for the prayers. Not so good news: My mother died July 4th. It was an easy death for her; she went to sleep and did not wake up'. In a way it was a blessing. Senility and several broken hips finally caught up with her. It took 104 years to do it! More good news: Grandparents get to brag about grandchildren. Our youngest grandson, Mark, will be 18 in January. He is busy applying to colleges now. When he was a freshman in high school a department at the University that follows the gifted and talented asked him to take the ATC's. He only had a 33 on it. He retook them last fall. He got a perfect 36. When we are as old as we all are, we survive on memories. Join me with your own memories and have a merry Christmas. Vic Edwards
Editor’s Note: Condolences and Congratulations on your grandson. Nola sent one of the loveliest online Christmas cards, but I did not get the message re-typed to send to you in time.
Roy Larson sends Merry Christmas wishes to the Class of 1957
Roy’s phone number is 507.696.8453
Address. 108 Lillie Lane
Pine Island, MN 55963
I phoned Roy to get this a newsy update: Roy suffers from wet macular degeneration. He gave up his computer, and he has a special light to use to read. He doesn’t answer the phone unless he recognizes the number. He did not recognize my number, but I left a message and he called me back. He recognizes people by voice and when they get close enough. He gets eye injections at Mayo Clinic. He gave up driving but bought a bicycle that has a platform in the back with two saddlebags to hold groceries. He and a neighbor ride on an old railroad bed. His two daughters live within 45 minutes and help him a lot. Both daughters work at Mayo. One grandson is in Afghanistan, another is a senior in High School preparing to enter the Marines, and he has a granddaughter who is also very bright and close to his heart. Roy has a beautiful faith.
Ray Larson is in a nursing home in a community north of Madison, Wisconsin. He was living with his daughter for a time. He is also bored, but Roy didn’t have his address, or I would give it to you.
Editor’s Note: Kudos to Roy for riding the bike!
LaVerne and Darlene Hauge are well and free from Covid, hoping they never get it!

Anne and Dave Stevens:
Merry Christmas from Cynthia Forde and Ron Beatty:
Ron and I had an exceptionally good year trying to outrun Covid. We had just arrived in Sedona, AZ in March before the quarantine occurred. Fortunately, during our three months stay there were only a handful of cases. We continued on with our trip north choosing places to hike that had no Covid cases. Eventually, we turned east to Medina, MN where I was able to baptize my great grandson. Traveling during this difficult time was challenging. We followed the guidelines. Ron tells people I gargle with Lysol.
Our visit with classmates, hiking and dinner with Annie and Dave, staying with Vic and Nola for two days was marvelous. I posted pictures of our hike with Vic and Nola on the blog if you are interested, scroll down to the first week in October by asking Google, where is Ron? Our blog shows up first.
