The students will have math homework in their Home Links workbook on Mondays through Thursday evenings. Please read the family letter that can be found in the Home Link at the beginning of each unit. The Student Reference Book and the journals stay in the classroom. This year there will be an eBook and further information is forthcoming. The students will get a login to the Everyday Math website and can access all of the resources there. Sometimes, the small Skills Link workbook will go home to review math concepts. The students will be given a review sheet to study for a test at the end of each unit.
It is very important that the fourth grade students practice and master their addition/subtraction facts plus their multiplication/division math facts so that they can complete the timed math tests within 3 minutes with accuracy. They need to practice the facts daily in order to accomplish this. Any help that they can receive at home would be greatly appreciated. The students who have mastered their math facts perform well on unit tests.
The students complete a math log for homework 2-4 times a week for 15-20 minutes, and a parents needs to sign the log for the student to receive credit. The log is handed in on the last day of the week which is usually Frida. The students have choices for the math log depending on what math concepts they need to practice at home. The students can practice math facts, play math games, or complete a worksheet.
