Temperature Ranges
Bits and Pieces recently showed temperatures ranges (all-time maximum temperatures minus all-time minimum temperatures) in Fahrenheit degrees for the United States in this map. I show below the temperature ranges in Celsius degrees. (The map was created using Microsoft MapPoint. I chose to use a "continuous" color grading rather than the discrete color grading used in the Bits and Pieces map.)

The temperature range for the United States as a whole is 119 Celsius degrees. (In a related fact, at one location in Montana, the temperature changed 57.2 Celsius degrees in just 24 hours.)
For comparison, here's a similar map for European countries.
