Marco Island and Florida West Coast Flight 4-1-2012

We were invited by our good friends Joanne and Bob to visit their condo on Marco Island. It is 188nm direct, a 5+ hour drive or 1hr 20 min flight. We had to fly low to duck Orlando class B airspace and detour a little to the west to avoid Avon Park restricted airspace.

Bob and Joanne took us to Goodland at Marco Island. It is an interesting place keeping the old Florida style. After our visit to Goodland we drove to Everglades City and had our dinner at Rod and Gun Lodge. It was built right after the civil war. Many presidents had visited it. It is full of history. In the morning of the 2nd day of our visit Bob and I flew north along the coast line and toured coasts of Fort Myers, Sanibel Island, and landed at Venice. In the afternoon Bob took us on a boat tour circling Marco Island. We made it back home shortly after sunset. It was a short and action filled visit. We had great time with Joanne and Bob.
