Modellers' Help

Warship Plans and Photos

I am occasionally asked by modellers where they can find plans of WW1 German warships.

Unfortunately this is not always so simple and can be expensive.

The first place to look must be Tony Lovell's website Dreadnoughtproject.org. here you will

find many original warship plans. These are free to download and are very good quality:

The main German military archive is the Bundesarchiv in Freiburg. Most of the original

navel plans covering both world wars are here and it is possible to buy copies. Mail them

from their website to ask what is available for a particular ship and the prices:

There are some commercial plans available, for example Christian Schmidt in Munich has a selection:

Ebay is also a possible source for commercial plans and photos:

Ebay Kaiserliche Marine

Another source of plans and ships' photos are the forums, her are just a few that I visit:

http://tsushima.su/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2427 (Russian)

(Google translator makes using these sites no problem)

There are many more forums, it's surprising sometimes what you find.

I hope that these addresses are some help.
