Although the woman's transformation into a fish is complete, still her femininity may shine through. She is still a woman in mind and spirit, even having forsaken the socially acceptable definitions of womanhood in favor of a simpler less hurtful physical identity of the "screamless" "sequin-skinned" fish. There is more to her identity than her physical womanhood, such as her ability to give birth; she may also make her own decisions, take her own actions, and take responsibility for them.
