COVID-19 Updates

After the world was shut down in March 2020 to protect everybody from the unfortunate situations that Covid-19 brought; the Navy League, much like the rest of our jobs and schools, progressed to adapt to life in the virtual world. NLCC JF Williams conducted an entire training year via Google Classroom/Meet, which we will continue to use if unforeseen situations were to occur.

For the 2021-2022 training year, we will be starting with virtual training as of September 14, 2021. Once we are back, masks have been mandated as mandatory to wear while attending all cadet related events. Hand sanitizer stations are located at every doorway to every building, which all personnel will be required to use upon entering the building, and exiting.

It is at this point in time, we are unable to grant permission for parents to enter our training facility during training hours, as we are strictly following all health guidelines set out by Federal and Province governments.

A Covid-19 return to in-person training document is available if you have any hesitations or concerns. Please email the Commanding Officer and we will be happy to discuss with you all precautions we have implemented.

Update:

January 10, 2022 - With the rise in new COVID-19 cases, we had decided to remain virtual for the month of January. Officers will be closely monitoring the number of cases that will occur over the course of the next few weeks, before determining if we will return to in-person training for February. Please take a look at our Facebook page for any updates as well.

March 13, 2022 - With COVID-19 cases on a steady decline in recent weeks, we have decided that we will return to in-person training. Officers will still be closely monitoring the number of cases. As of March 11, 2022, the BC Health Provincial Officer lifted mask restrictions; however, we will continue to follow the stricter guidelines via the Navy League of Canada National President. Masks will remain mandatory in all buildings, COVID-19 health checks will be done every week prior to cadets being allowed in buildings, 2 meters social distancing will still be enforced, and no overnight weekends will happen until further notice.

October 11, 2022 - We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 cases and will continue to do so. We have been able to begin our 2022/2023 training year fully in-person, which remains to be our hopes that we will continue to remain in-person for the entire year. At this time, all cadets, officers, parents, and guests that come onboard our training facility, are requested to wear their masks while inside all buildings. We will continue to follow social distancing rules of 2 meters. We are slowly returning to our pre-covid ways - Stand Easy being provided by the corps, overnight onboard weekends, and community fundraising. It's our hopes that in due time, we will be able to go about our parades without the wearing of masks, but until then, we heed caution.

November 21, 2023 - We still monitor the COVID-19 cases, and with cold and flu season just around the corner, we remain cautious. However, we have returned to full in-person training. Masks are no longer mandatory, however, we do ask if that you are feeling the effects of a cold/flu, please stay home and rest. Masks are encouraged once you are no longer contagious, but they are a personal preference.
