Throughout the story, animals serve as a main theme, this is due to the fact that Pi comes from a family that owns a zoo, and spends most of his life with animals. He questions the hierarchy of him and and richard parker, wondering if he could establish a truce between the two.
In the story Life of Pi, Pi is influenced by three different religions in his life. His first religion is Hinduism because of his love with its spirituality and beauty. His second religion is Catholic, where he admires the story of Christ. His third and final religion is Muslim, because of what Mr. Kumar said about Muslim being the religion of the 'beloved'.
From part 2 to 3, Pi does his best to survive along with Richard Parker after his ships sinking, he faces various challenges such as stravation, heavy weather and the aggressive survival instincts of Richard Parker.
