IB "In Your Element WeeK"
Our PYP learners commenced the new academic session with an amazing blend of fun activities and learning engagements. Learners reviewed the five essential elements of the IBPYP: the six transdisciplinary themes, ATL skills, learner profile attributes, specified concepts and action components. The learner profile attribute of the month “Inquirers” was highlighted in every class through inquiries and collaborative learning. The week provided a conducive environment for the learners to bond with their teachers and peers and also gear up for the academic year.

Guest Session on Personal Wellbeing
Ms.Sangeeta Rishipathak, our counsellor at the Symbiosis Centre for Emotional Well-Being (SCEW), led an engaging and interactive session for PYP 5 learners on “Personal Wellbeing”. She skilfully guided the learners through various ways for improving their emotional, physical, spiritual and mental health. The learners gained valuable insights about stress management, resilience building and positive self-esteem. The session also enriched learners’ understanding of personal well-being and equipped them with practical strategies that can be used in their daily lives. The learners not only enjoyed the session but had a greater grasp of how to take care of their well-being.

Guest Session on Muscular System
PYP 4 learners attended a session on “Muscular System” conducted by Ms. Tejaswini Yadav, a coach from Guwahati Sports Academy. The learners learned about the different types of muscles and the impact of nutrition and exercise on the muscular system.

Guest Session 0n Emotional Wellbeing
Our PYP 5 learners participated in an enlightening session on 'Emotional Wellbeing' led by Ms. Nitasha Pinjani Agrawal, head of Well-being space, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Ms. Agrawal used her extensive experience and provided valuable insights into various strategies to harness our inner energy and efficiently navigate our everyday challenges. She covered guided meditation techniques to calm and rejuvenate the mind, brain gym exercises to promote mental agility, the powerful 'Ripple Effect of Kindness', the benefits of journaling, etc. The session concluded with a comprehensive 5-step strategy for emotional wellbeing, leaving a lasting impact on all participants.

Guest Session on Musculoskeletal System
Our PYP 4 learners had the opportunity to attend a session led by prominent physical education experts Mr. Pradeep and Mr. Prabhuverlekar, who shared their knowledge of the musculoskeletal system. The session included a detailed exploration of how bones, muscles, and connective tissues work together to support and move the human body. It also highlighted the structural complexities of skeletal components, the function of key muscle groups, and their collective role in daily activities and overall stability. Furthermore, the experts discussed common musculoskeletal disorders, their impact on health, and strategies for prevention and rehabilitation measures. The session ended with several fascinating takeaways and exercises that our students diligently followed and demonstrated.

Guest Session on Wellbeing
Ms. Shambhavi Kwatra, our school counsellor, was invited to enlighten our PYP 5 learners on the concept of “wellbeing” as part of their ongoing unit of inquiry. Her insightful session focused on identifying factors that hamper our wellbeing and provided practical strategies to overcome them. Through engaging real-life scenarios, Ms. Kwatra also created a captivating learning environment, empowering students to comprehend the concept of wellbeing more effectively, making the session both informative and interactive.

Guest Session on International Mindedness (Intercultural Understanding)
Ms. Elena Bagchi led a session for our PYP 3 students, introducing them to the classic Russian poem "Wash 'Em Clean" by Kornei Chukovsky. Ms. Bagchi vividly narrated the century-old Russian poem, emphasizing the significance of hygiene in our homes and surroundings. Her innovative approach, which included sharing simple Russian words and phrases as well as insights into Russian holidays and culture, provided an enriching experience and broadened our learners' awareness of the world.

Guest Session on “Balance diet”
Ms. Aishwarya Harotti, our school dietician led a captivating session for the PYP 4 learners. She discussed the importance of a balanced diet for overall health. She also highlighted how daily food choices impact physical and mental health, reducing chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, and promoting cardiovascular health.

Guest Session on International Mindedness
We had the pleasure of hosting Ms. Ramya Moorthy, an architect and passionate storyteller, for an enriching session with our PYP 3 students. She shared fascinating insights on Tamilian culture, inspiring the students to explore how local traditions can connect to global perspectives. Her storytelling ignited meaningful discussions on the concept of 'International Mindedness', encouraging our young learners to think beyond borders and embrace diversity. It was a truly engaging session that provided our students with a broader worldview.

Expert Session
Mr. Dipesh Mehta, Project Head of Suzlon, visited Symbiosis International School and discussed sustainable practices and Suzlon's initiatives with our PYP 5 learners. He highlighted Suzlon's global leadership in manufacturing wind turbines and supplying them. Mr. Mehta demonstrated how renewable energy can protect the planet and mitigate nonrenewable resource depletion, providing a practical perspective on sustainable practices.

Guest Session on Developing a ‘Growth Mindset’
Our SEN coordinator, Ms. Deepa Prasad, with Ms. Pooja Jagtani and Mr. Rakesh More, led a powerful session for PYP 5 learners. The session focused on the concept 'mindset' with an emphasis on distinguishing between fixed and growth mindsets. Through interactive activities, the session highlighted notable individuals who exemplified the principles of growth mindset. The learners gained valuable insights into strategies for cultivating a growth mindset and gave practical suggestions on how to move away from a fixed mindset.

Ms. Nidhi Dhuper conducted a session on 'Self-Awareness' and the significance of setting goals for our PYP 2 students. It also enabled the learners to reflect more deeply on their passions.

Guest Session on Social-Emotional Awareness
Facilitators from our SEN department led a session on ‘Social-Emotional Awareness’ for PYP 2 students. The session covered strategies for dealing with failure, anger management, and conflict resolution. This interactive session encouraged learners to reflect on their emotions and feelings, highlighting the significance of being mindful of their actions in different situations. It was an excellent learning experience for the students.

Hindi Diwas
This year, at SIS, Hindi Diwas was celebrated by the whole school, where our PYP students captivated the entire audience with their exhilarating performances. The performances promote the Hindi language and its cultural significance while also linking them to the IB learner profile attributes. The event was a resounding success as it fostered a sense of national pride and cultural identity and encouraged students to embrace their linguistic heritage and multilingualism.

PYP Literary Festival 2024-25
We celebrated our learners’ power of imagination and creativity throughout the week-long literary festival. Competing in different events enabled the learners to enhance their public speaking skills, creativity, and artistic expression. It was an elevating experience for our young learners, as both the oral and written events greeted our young learners into the world of imagination, creativity, language play, empathy and self-awareness.

Field Trip to Science Park
Grade 5 students recently visited the Science Park, where they explored and observed various displays on forms of energy, including solar, wind, and mechanical energy. They engaged in hands-on activities, experimenting with models to understand how different forms of energy are generated and utilized. The visit helped them connect classroom learning with real-world applications, sparking curiosity and a deeper understanding of energy concepts.

National Spanish Day
¡Qué celebración! The Spanish National Day celebration was a hit! Our PYP 1, 2, and 3 students showcased their talents with spectacular dance performances that left us all in awe. PYP 4 performed a delightful skit titled "Grasshoppers and the Ants," while PYP 5 impressed everyone by dressing up and acting as famous personalities! It's so inspiring to see our little ones perform and speak Spanish so confidently!

Field Trip to Empress Botanical Garden
PYP 4 students visited the Empress Botanical Garden and investigated the distinct characteristics of the various trees in the garden. They learned about eco-friendly painting techniques that use leaves, flowers, ferns, and other natural materials rather than synthetic paints. They also learned about the life cycles of butterflies and dragonflies and participated in a food chain game. The day was packed with exploration, creativity, and a deeper connection to the environment, making it an unforgettable experience.

Nature Walk
PYP 4 learners had an amazing time during their biodiversity walk! Led by MYP student experts Kaira Sinha, Renee Dhuper, and Anandita Pawar, the learners explored the school campus, identifying plants, birds, butterflies, and bugs. The hands-on activity designed by the three girls, involving pictures and name tags for labelling, has made the experience even more engaging. It's wonderful to see the learners so excited about nature and learning to identify various plant and animal species. This activity fostered a love for the environment.

Field Trip to Ecoville Farm, Pune
The PYP 1 unit of inquiry on life cycles explored the process of change in living things. A field trip to Ecoville Farm provided hands-on learning experiences, allowing our young learners to connect their knowledge to real life through activities like treasure hunts, sowing seeds and animal feeding.

International Artist Day
The PYP Arts department organized a ‘Celebration of Arts’ on the occasion of International Artist Day by introducing renown artists in the fields of drama, music, and visual arts. The students exhibited their learning through displays and performances.
Drama: Learners were introduced to various artists—Jim Henson, Charlie Chaplin, Gulzar, Lee Strasberg, and Stanislavsky—and their work and contributions. A scene from the movie ‘Parichay’, directed by the legendary Gulzar, was the highlight of the students’ performance.
Music: Learners conducted extensive research on the band "Queen" and paid tribute to the band members, particularly Freddie Mercury, with an oratory biography and performance of the song "We Will Rock You."
Visual Arts: Learners learned about the work of Japanese origamist Akira Yoshizawa and artist and illustrator Yulia Brodskaya, and then they created stunning artworks on quilling and origami.

Mini Marathon
The vibrant campus of our school echoed with the sound of tiny footsteps and cheers at the annual Mini Marathon. Organized by the dedicated Physical Education department, the event was a delightful blend of fun, fitness, and friendly competition.
From tiny tots to budding athletes, participants took to the track, their determination inspiring everyone around.
The Mini Marathon was more than just a race; it was a celebration of health, sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance.

The final event of the year 2024 was a blast!!
The much anticipated PYP Annual concert, Awe' Sym 2024 was without a doubt spectacular. Bound with the theme of 'Journey of Indian Cinema', the audience experienced this journey right from the beginning where Dadasaheb Phalke, the Father of Indian cinema made first ever film, 'Raja Harishchandra'
All the students performed flawlessly, giving the audience a wonderful show!

Profile of the Month
THINKER
In our quest to cultivate and foster the 'Thinker' learner profile attribute, our PYP students embarked on a series of engaging activities. They dived into the world of geometric patterns, constructing intricate designs with popsicle sticks, and sharpened their problem-solving skills by tackling challenging puzzles. Learners explored the minds of great thinkers through captivating videos and insightful books, sparking their curiosity and critical thinking. They also creatively expressed their 'Thinker' identities by designing posters, visually representing their unique thought processes. An interactive memory matrix game further honed their cognitive abilities and strategic thinking. These diverse experiences fostered a deeper understanding of what it means to be a thinker, encouraging intellectual curiosity and a love of learning within each student.

Mother Language Day
Our school celebrated International Mother Language Day with a week-long series of events highlighting linguistic diversity. Students showcased their talents during Drama classes through poems, stories, and tongue twisters performed in their native languages. They were encouraged to embrace and celebrate their linguistic heritage by speaking and performing in their mother tongues throughout the week.
Teachers also led a special assembly featuring students singing songs in various mother tongues, and ESL learners also created cultural phrase booklet, reflecting their learning and appreciation for the diverse languages represented in our school community, highlighting the significance of the day in promoting linguistic and cultural diversity.

Marathi Diwas
The PYP celebration of Marathi Bhasha Gaurav Din proved to be a memorable and enriching experience for both students and teachers. As this day is celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of the ace poet and playwright ‘Kusumagraj’, we commenced the program with a prayer written by him and the audience experienced the significance of the Marathi language and culture through the variety of performances by the students. The day was filled with enthusiasm, creativity, and pride as students actively participated in various activities that reflected their deep appreciation for their mother tongue and heritage.

Profile of the Month
COMMUNICATOR
This month, our PYP learners honed their Communicator profile through a vibrant blend of engaging activities. A highlight was the engaging expert session with Mr. Santosh, where learners discovered the art of ventriloquism, a unique and captivating form of communication.
The educational and fun session left students with a newfound appreciation for diverse expressive techniques. Through read-aloud books, role-playing, and focused listening, writing, and reading activities, learners also refined their communication skills.
Meaningful collaboration further enhanced their understanding of respecting diverse perspectives, solidifying their growth as effective communicators.

WORLD THEATRE DAY
Everyone has 'Drama' in them!!
The World Theatre Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Students across all grades participated in play productions of different styles and genres.
While DP presented a play based on Agatha Christie's story, IG play performance was a representation of today's 'virtual' reality. MYP presented a Hindi adaptation of Anton Chekov's story and PYP clung to fantasy with a twist and comedy with play productions like 'Cinderella', 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'The King who would not laugh'

PROFILE OF THE MONTH
KNOWLEDGEABLE
This month, our PYP learners actively embodied the IB Learner Profile of Knowledgeable through various engaging activities across grade levels. PYP 1 students shared objects of personal significance during a show and tell, connecting their experiences to knowledge. PYP 2 explored the power of learning through the read-aloud of 'Your Fantastic Elastic Brain' while PYP 3 proudly created mini booklets showcasing the knowledge gained from their independent reading.
PYP 4 thoughtfully reflected on the knowledgeable attribute using the Glow and Grow strategy after watching an insightful video. PYP 5 delved deeper into the foundational elements of the IB PYP through various sessions and simultaneously engaged with the intriguing narrative of 'The Mystery of the Vanishing River'. As a vibrant culmination, our ESL learners conducted a special assembly, further demonstrating and celebrating their growing knowledge and understanding.

PROFILE OF THE MONTH
REFLECTIVE
This month, our PYP students deeply engaged with the Reflective learner profile, fostering a crucial habit of self-awareness and thoughtful action across all grade levels. PYP 1 learners embarked on an inquiry into the uses of water, culminating in meaningful reflections on its vital importance. PYP 2 explored themes of self-acceptance through a book reflection on "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes."
Meanwhile, PYP 3 engaged with a thought-provoking read-aloud story centred around the theme of a mirror, designed to deepen their understanding of self-awareness and the power of reflection. PYP 4 students looked inward, reflecting on their inquiries before thoughtfully designing cards for community helpers, connecting their learning to real-world gratitude.
Finally, PYP 5 listened to an inspiring read-aloud and utilized the "Mirror Moment" strategy to reflect on their recently concluded PYP Exhibition. This diverse range of activities empowered our students to embrace reflection as a lifelong habit, one that nurtures confidence, thoughtful action, and the ability to inspire others.

GRANDMA'S CAFE
A heartwarming storytelling session at Grandma's Café was organized for PYP 1 learners. This session was led by three very special guests: Ms. Charusheela Tingre, Ms. Vandana More, and Ms. Sulochana Garg, our own PYP 1 grandparents!
These amazing storytellers captivated our young learners with tales in English, Marathi, and Hindi.
Our young learners had the wonderful opportunity to choose their preferred story session, which not only fostered student agency and nurtured international-mindedness but also highlighted the timeless power of storytelling in conveying messages and ideas. Beyond learning, it revived the beautiful tradition of storytelling in a tech-driven world.

EASTER JOY IN THE AIR
Our talented students brought the spirit of Easter alive through a wonderful assembly celebration!
They presented a heartfelt skit showcasing the significance of Easter, reminding us all of hope, kindness, and togetherness.
The celebration didn’t stop there!
The learners also hosted an interactive Easter quiz that engaged their peers, spreading knowledge and festive cheers all around.

WORLD EARTH DAY
To mark the occasion of World Earth Day, the PYP Council Members hosted a special assembly, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of protecting our planet and its natural resources.
A key highlight of the assembly was a heartfelt rendition of the song "Humko Hai Jagna, Aur Hai Samajhna", performed by the council members. Through this performance, they thoughtfully brought attention to the environmental challenges our planet faces and shared meaningful ways we can all contribute to its well-being.
In addition, the students participated in engaging, hands-on activities within their respective classrooms to mark the day. Their thoughtful work was proudly exhibited in the school corridors, showcasing their creativity, commitment, and care for the Earth.

PROFILE OF THE MONTH
BALANCED
A special assembly was conducted to celebrate the IB Learner Profile attribute of balanced,& providing a platform for students to share their insightful perspectives. Through a thoughtful poem and personal reflections, learners articulated their understanding of balance and discussed their efforts to maintain intellectual and emotional well-being in their daily routines. A short skit featuring student testimonials further illuminated the significance of this crucial attribute.
A particular moment of pride was the felicitation of Ryan Tingre from PYP 4, a true embodiment of balance. Ryan's remarkable achievement as a key member and top scorer of the winning team at the 'Kickystrikes Inter-Academy Football Tournament' held in Spain this April was celebrated by the entire school community. During the assembly, Ryan shared his inspiring journey of successfully balancing his academic pursuits with his extracurricular passion for football, offering valuable insights for his fellow students. The assembly served as a powerful reminder of the importance of holistic development and striving for balance in all aspects of our lives.

PYP Exhibition
Under the transdisciplinary theme 'How the World Works' our recent PYP exhibition showcased the remarkable collaborative efforts of our students and the whole learning community as they inquired into a diverse range of significant local and global issues. These young learners demonstrated impressive agency in exploring topics such as artificial intelligence, climate action, ecosystems, healthcare systems, and water conservation.
The culmination day provided a platform for our PYP 5 students to share their in-depth understandings with parents and visiting students from Mahindra International School Pune and Indus International School Pune. Their insightful presentations and dedicated efforts were a true celebration of student-led inquiry and a testament to the entire learning community's commitment.
The event was not only a highlight of the power of collaborative learning in addressing complex issues but also a celebration that highlighted the culmination of our students years of PYP learning, a truly grand and moving testament to their growth and achievements.

PYP Graduation
Our PYP 5 Graduation Day was a truly memorable and poignant occasion, marking a significant milestone in our young learners' educational journey. The ceremony commenced with inspiring addresses from our esteemed Director and Coordinator, who shared words of wisdom and encouragement for the graduates' future endeavors. A proud moment followed as each PYP 5 student was felicitated, acknowledging their dedication and growth throughout their primary years. The atmosphere was further enriched by heartfelt performances from our dedicated teachers and talented PYP 4 students, adding a touch of warmth and celebration. Our PYP Captain Boy and Captain Girl together delivered an eloquent speech, reflecting on their transformative journey.
The ceremony culminated in a truly unforgettable and deeply moving performance by the young graduates themselves, a beautiful and powerful testament to their collective spirit and readiness for the exciting new adventures that lie ahead. PYP Step- up ceremony
A special in-school Step-Up Ceremony was held to celebrate the successful transition of our learners from PYP 1 through PYP 4 to their next respective grades. This significant occasion served as an opportunity to formally recognize each student's remarkable progress, dedicated learning, and notable accomplishments throughout the academic year.
The ceremony provided a valuable moment for learners to reflect on the year's growth and to collectively cheer on their achievements. As a testament to their efforts, each learner was presented with a certificate acknowledging their hard work and readiness for the challenges and opportunities that await them in the next stage of their Primary Years Program journey. The event underscored our commitment to celebrating every step of our students' academic development.
