How do you deal with things when they don't go your way? Throughout the season, like life, things are not always going to go as expected. We try to instill a "neutral way of thinking" and teach to deal with the data and information available. This creates a toughness that enables you to get through any situation with the best possible result.
This is "our" team...no one person is bigger than the team. Empowerment starts with ownership. In order to get the most out of being on this team you need to take ownership and accountability for yourself. This includes...being mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared for practice and games. Being punctual. Owning the outcomes and being accountable for decisions. We all have a role on this team...you need to be able to accept that role and be the best you can be at that role.
You are not always in control of what happens...but...your attitude and the way you handle it is in your control. The team needs you to have a positive attitude and treat your role with enthusiasm. It doesn't mean that things will always work out the way we want, but we'd much rather go through them with the right attitude. Attitude also will dictate how you treat your teammates, and alter your confidence. Every situation..good or bad...is an opportunity. With the right attitude we can grow.
The team's "mission" has to come before individual missions. As long as we stay focused on our "mission" success is inevitable. As you practice, play games, and carry yourself off of the field...keep in mind the team's mission.
A Rebel baseball player asks, "What can I do to help others?" first, before worrying about themselves. This also includes understanding and accepting my role. How do I best serve the team? I also understand that giving back to the team, and my community, is of utmost importance.
