The studio experience in Art reinforces the Studio Habits of Mind (SHOM), elements and
principles of design, teaches various artistic techniques, and provides opportunity for creativity
and inquiry. Learning is student guided and is centered on responding to art and culture,
engaging in the creative process, presenting artwork, and making connections in the world in
in order to develop artistic literacy.
Required Materials:
● Camera or device to take photos/video
○ point and shoots are available for check out
● Card reader (to connect to chrome book and desktop)
○ shared class materials are available for in class use
● An open mind!

Any required materials may be loaned to student for the duration of the class
Grading Policy:
● Grades are weighted
○ Levels of Engagement/ Participation 10% of Quarter Grade - Engaged in the visual art process throughout the class period, active participation in studio process, maintenance of personal artistic space/supplies, demonstration of respect, responsibility and honor to self, peers, teacher and instructional space.
○ Create/Respond
Class Assignments/Projects 60% of Quarter Grade- Students will use submit
artwork in response to project criteria. They will be graded on elements
and principles of design, technical application, craftsmanship, creativity,
response to work of self and others
○ Present/ Connect
Studio Habit of Mind Digital (SHoM) Portfolio 30% of Quarter Grade-Students will document artistic process and learning using the SHoM process in the form of a Google portfolio or Site. The portfolio will be updated weekly and submitted with the completion of each assigned project.
○ Final 10% Students will present their learning through the presentation of their SHoM portfolio focusing on one project that allowed them to grow technically and artistically.
Homework Policy:
● Homework will be assigned and due only on days we meet. Homework will be assigned during class period and due at the date given during class.
