Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Jeff DiLeone, and I will be your student’s science teacher for this upcoming school year!
I would like to provide some background information about myself. This will be my fourth year teaching here at SHS, so I am very excited to learn and grow along with your student this year. Prior to coming here, I attended The University of Connecticut where I majored in Secondary Education with a minor in Chemistry. I completed my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at UConn as well. Go Huskies!
With the new Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Engineering practices, science is changing, evolving, and developing daily with new discoveries and questions. Science is the process of inquiry, challenging students to question what they see and what they do. Presenting students with a challenge, then having them work to solve it by leading them with information and questions. I intend to bring this type of science to my classroom.
Your student will spend little time listening to me lecture in the front of the room. I believe in students taking an active role in their learning in the classroom. Students should be at the center of every lesson. I will help them to solve problems, discover, and learn in groups by collaboration with their peers.
Every student is different and brings something unique to each discussion and class. A classroom truly feels like a place of learning when students feel comfortable and willing to share their perspectives with others.
I look forward to a great year of learning and discovery. If you ever need to contact me I can be reached by email me at jdileone@simsburyschools.net and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
Sincerely,
Jeff DiLeone
