All Makerspace equipment and supplies are supplied on a first come, first served basis.
All hair, scarves, jewelry, and loose-fitting clothing should be secured before beginning a project in the Makerspace.
Keep tables and floor clear of clutter to avoid tripping and accidents.
Always address a broken tool or machine. Unsure if it’s broken or not working? Ask a Makershark!
Patrons can leave works in progress in the Makerspace and can reserve materials to finish a project (within reason).
For example, a patron can reserve the necessary amount of fabric to complete a sewing pattern, but may NOT reserve multiple blank canvases at a time.
WIPS must be labeled with the patrons name, email address, and the date the project was last worked on.
The Makershark on shift will log new WIPs and update their status in the spreadsheet so the facilitators can easily determine when WIPs are abandoned.
WIPS will be stored behind the employee desk and must be retrieved from & given to the Makershark-On-Duty to ensure the patron is aware of the WIP policy.
Patrons must return to work on their project within 4 weeks or must check in with the Makersharks to confirm they wish to continue the project. Failure to do so will be taken as abandonment of the WIP.
If a patron does not return to the Makerspace or check in with the Makersharks within 4 weeks of marking a project as a WIP, the project will be considered abandoned.
Abandoned projects will be dismantled to reclaim the materials and/or recycled to preserve storage in the Makerspace.
The Makersharks are not responsible for reminding the patron of the 4 week deadline.
No food in the Makerspace.
Closed drink containers and drinks with straws allowed.
Keep drinks away from equipment.
No phone calls in the lab.
Working in groups is encouraged, but this is a work space. Do not invite friends who will not be working, or save seats for those not physically present.
Students must receive training to use certain equipment safely and may not operate such equipment unless approved by a technology specialist.
If you're unsure of how something works or how to do something, ask a Makershark!
Students may use the Makerspace within the hours of 10 AM to 7 PM on weekdays when classes are in session. However, the Makerspace is closed when the campus is closed (i.e. during breaks, snow emergencies, etc.).
