High School Summer School
Royal High School
Royal High School
Summer School registration is now closed.
High School Summer School will run from July 1 to July 24 at Royal High School. Two periods are offered, each counting toward one semester of credit. Period 1 is from 8:30–10:35 AM, and Period 2 is from 10:55 AM–1:00 PM. All classes are in person and there is no virtual option.
This program is for current high school students and incoming 9th grade students.
Program Overview
High School Summer School is designed to support both credit recovery and get-ahead opportunities, based on student needs, course availability, and staffing.
Credit Recovery
Summer school is primarily designed for credit recovery. Students who earned a grade of “F” must make up credits in order to graduate. Students who earned a grade of “D” are strongly encouraged to repeat the course to maintain A–G eligibility.
Get-Ahead Courses
Get-ahead courses allow students to progress in their academic plan by improving access to additional coursework. These courses are not intended to create free periods, serve as a TA period, or replace required on-campus enrollment.
How to Register
Students must complete both steps to enroll in summer school.
Step 1 of 2: Complete the Summer School Registration Form
👉 Complete the Summer School Registration Form:
WAIT LIST - Incoming Grade 9 Registration Form
WAIT LIST - Grades 10–12 Registration Form
Step 2 of 2: Complete the Independent Study Agreement (ISA)
Students are not officially enrolled and may not attend summer school until the Independent Study Agreement is completed.
👉 Complete the Independent Study Agreement (Enrollment Form):
Important:
When completing the Independent Study Agreement (ISA), the course selection is for Learn4Life enrollment purposes only. It does not change the summer school course the student selected on the summer school registration form.
Students/parents should only complete Course 1 on the ISA form.
In the “Course 1” section, select the course category that best matches the student’s summer school course. The exact course name may not appear in the dropdown. If the exact course is not listed, choose the closest subject/category.
For high school students, select a course category that includes (9–12) or (K–12). Do not select a K–8 course category for a high school student.
Examples:
Freshman Seminar: Health (9–12)
Ethnic Studies: Civics (9–12)
English 9, English 10, or English 11: English (9–12)
Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II: Mathematics (K–12)
Biology or Chemistry: Life Science (9–12)
Physics: Physical Science (9–12)
PE 9/10 or Summer Athletics: Physical Education (K–12)
U.S. History: U.S. History (9–12)
World History: World History (9–12)
Spanish 1 or Spanish 2: World Language/CTE (9–12)
Basic Design or Photography: Visual/Performing Arts (9–12)
Important Signature Instructions
The student must sign and type their name in the student section. If a parent/guardian is signing for the student, the parent/guardian must sign the student’s name in the student section, not their own name.
Forms completed incorrectly may need to be resubmitted.

Summer Athletics
Students interested in participating in summer athletics must also complete the Summer Athletics Enrollment Request form. After submitting the Summer School Registration form, a link to the athletics form will be provided on the confirmation page. All athletics enrollments are pending coach approval and program availability. Athletic classes take place outside of the regular summer school schedule (8:30 AM–1:00 PM).
Athletic Credit & Scheduling Limits
District policy limits summer enrollment to a maximum of 15 credits. If your student takes two morning academic classes (10 credits), they will only be enrolled in their sport period (5 credits) to stay within the district limit. If your student takes no morning academic classes, they will be enrolled in both their sport and summer weights (10 credits) to cover their daily 3-hour and 5-minute athletic block.
Communication & Updates
What is ParentSquare
ParentSquare is the primary tool used for all summer school communications. Messages and updates will begin after the regular school year ends, approximately two to three weeks before summer school starts. All critical announcements, including daily drop-off, pick-up, and first-day procedures, will be sent directly to families. Downloading the ParentSquare mobile app is highly recommended to stay informed, or logging in can be done directly on the ParentSquare website:
How Accounts Work
ParentSquare draws data directly from the contact information provided in the Aeries Parent Portal. There is no need to create a separate profile; the communication account is automatically linked to the registered Aeries email and phone number.
Not Receiving Messages
ParentSquare syncs automatically with the district database, so any updates or corrections to phone numbers or email addresses must be made directly within Aeries. If updates are not being received, logging into Aeries will verify that contact details are current.
Support Boundaries
Please do not contact individual school sites or the district office with summer school questions or inquiries regarding ParentSquare setup and missing messages. They cannot access the summer school's systems or communications. For assistance, please email the summer school high school school principal or assistant principal.
Schedules and Changes
Student Class Schedules
Student class schedules are typically visible in the Aeries Parent Portal approximately one week before the first day of summer classes. Once released by the administration team, parents and students can log in to view schedules using the Aeries Parent Portal:
Schedule Corrections
To submit a correction or request an academic class change once student class schedules are released, any needed updates must be completed using the High School Summer School Course Change Request Form:
High School Summer School Course Change Request Form
Schedule Questions
Please do not contact individual SVUSD school sites, the district office, or Learn4Life regarding summer schedules, as they do not have access to the summer school scheduling systems. If assistance is needed with schedules, please email the summer high school counselors.
Attendance & Other Information
Attendance Policy
Attendance is critical for earning credit. Students may not miss more than two days of summer school. Students who exceed this two day limit will be dropped from the program.
Required Materials
Students must bring a district-issued laptop and charger to summer school each day.
Program Limits
Class sizes are limited and enrollment is not guaranteed. Courses and programs are subject to change based on enrollment and staffing availability.
