Welcome to 7th or 8th grade Science with Mrs. Bruntz. Students will get the opportunity to work individually and cooperatively in groups to gain a better understanding of living things and the processes at work within the amazing world we inhabit. Everyday is an Adventure!
Our first STEM Challenge of the year was to collaborate, design, and build a Lookout Tower for our park ranger friend "Lookout Tommy". Students were given limited supplies of 10 cardboard straws, 2 index cards, and 5 ft of tape to construct a tower that supports Lookout Tommy. I am pleased to announce that every team successfully held Lookout Tommy! Once each team was successful at holding Lookout Tommy, we began to add weight to see how much gear Lookout Tommy could bring with him. Our STEM Challenge Champions for this round are Eli Campidilli, Kannon Horton, Nash Johnson, and Luciano Rodriguez. Their tower held 2,700 grams, which is equivalent to 5. 95 lbs! These great engineers have won a full size candy bar/box, a spot on our STEM Champions wall of fame, and bragging rights.

The 7th grade students will have an educational blast exploring Konza Biological Research Station on October 17th! We will learn more about our fabulous tallgrass prairie ecosystem here in Northeast Kansas. Ask your student about their permission slip and parent letter to go on this adventure.
