8th Grade
All rising 8th grade students are required to read at least two books this summer. Any two books from the list will be acceptable. Students may also read from higher-grade-level lists. Also, students may wish to select one book from the Summer Reading List and one book of their own choosing. The student's upcoming English teacher must approve any books chosen by students before school ends for the summer. No books will be approved over the summer.
Students should be prepared for an assignment on each book when school begins. Books must be read by the first day of school. Parents and students must sign and return the form that states the student has read either two books from the list, or one book from the list and a book chosen by the student with prior teacher approval. The parental form must be turned in during the first week of school. This will be your first English grade for the new school year, so read, read, read!
**Disclaimer: Not all titles on this list are considered “Christian literature." The reading list contains classics, Newberry Award winners, and contemporary pieces that are recommended for middle school-aged readers. We ask that parents partner with their students in selecting titles that are appropriate for them. Some books may contain violence, language, or sensitive subject matter.
