K-2nd Grades
In our K-2nd grades, we do not have any required summer reading; however, we recommend that your family participate in our Honor’s Reading Program. This program is optional for all our elementary students, but strongly encouraged. We also encourage all elementary families to attend the open Media Center times advertised below.
The Honors Reading program requires students to read a certain number of books in addition to the reading already required in the regular classroom curriculum. Therefore, students who complete these books have truly exceeded the school's requirements. Those who aspire to and complete these books will be recognized each year at our closing Elementary Awards Day in May.
3rd-5th Grades
One specific book is required for summer reading for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The classes will do follow-up activities with this selection upon their return in the fall. We suggest scheduling this book to be read later in the summer for good retention. There is also a second required book of their choice. You may select one of the recommendations or any age-appropriate book from the Honors Reading List on the Elementary Parent Portal. You must print and sign the pledge form below and submit it to your teacher in the first week of school.
It is essential to keep the mind academically engaged during the summer. Reading is a great way to accomplish this. Turn off the TV, tablets, and cell phone to spend some time reading aloud together. Keep some books in the car for unexpected waits in traffic or at the doctor’s office. Parents set the greatest example in demonstrating the importance of reading in everyone’s life.
New/Transfer Students:
If students are accepted on or before July 15, all summer reading is still mandated for the start of school.
Students accepted after this date are only required to read the required book for the grade.
