Stephen Payne - SC Translation Consultant
Stephen Payne has been working on some PowerPoints to help teams who are newly using AI drafts, learn how best to edit them. You can access the training materials here: Editing an AI Draft – Stephen Payne’s Training Materials.
The first PowerPoint covers a best-practice procedure for editing “zero-drafts,” and it points out the kinds of mistakes AI commonly makes in drafting Scripture, so that translators know what to focus their attention on.
The second PowerPoint provides practice for teams to work through different passages to identify and correct mistakes in the above-mentioned categories, and then to come together to discuss their findings in the larger group.
Although the PowerPoints are designed for training teams in a workshop setting, they can just as easily be used independently by individual teams.
The PowerPoints were built on the research presented by Mark Penny in last month’s Translation Newsletter, but they are aimed at a level that will be easy for mother-tongue translators to understand and implement. The materials were successfully used in a recent workshop in South Asia. The LWC examples in the second PowerPoint have been removed, but instructions are given on how to easily replace them with ones from the LWC in your language area. Seed Company distributed these training materials to all their translation consultants, and we would now like to make them more widely.
