This workshop was co-facilitated by ECHO Asia staff and SIL's LEAD Global staff. This workshop was hosted at the Sala Conference Center, onsite ECHO Asia campus.
Our week was full(!), with a mix of Scripture engagement topics and specific restorative agricultural practices.
A timeline activity to visualize God's narrative of Scripture and how agriculture is part of restoration.
A demonstration on healthy soils.
Seeds are a way God allows the earth to sustain itself.
an ECHO specialty, and always a favorite! These plant species are often important indigenous vegetable/food sources but have been lost to globalization. These plants have unique nutrition and are uniquely adapted to the local microclimates, providing food security in less-than-ideal conditions.
We looked at how rest is an important part of God's plan, and how Scripture informs our patterns of rest and work.
Participants learning how to use feedstock from their own area to produce viable livestock feeds.
Pyrolyzed material is mixed with manure to make it biologically-active charcoal, or bio-char! This is a valuable soil amendment in clay-type soils.
Vision visits happened today! Participants went to a dairy farm and a vegetable farm where they saw firsthand how farmers in Northern Thailand were farming in restorative ways.
Today consisted of reflections from the Vision Visits yesterday, and the creation of an action plan of how these principles and Scripture engagement ideas will be implemented in their home communities.
Extending this idea of restorative farming and agriculture as God's first mandate to Adam is vital for the world today. In this session, participants create an action plan for how they will share this understanding with their communities.
